The dream that wakes you up in a cold sweat, avoiding that street or store because of “them,” feeling hypervigilant even in safe spaces – your experiences have affected you, and some keep sticking around.
Your body is tense. You are clenching your jaw. You’re having nightmares about it. People dealing with the effects of trauma want to feel better; they want to stop reacting and start living.
Not every event in our lives is pleasant. Our brain tries to find a way to process the terrible things that happen to us. But sometimes that processing gets stuck – and the memory stays activated, as if the event just happened.
“Self-compassion is a way of emotionally recharging our batteries.”
– Kristin Neff, PhD
“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.”
– Peter A. Levine
“Trauma teaches us that healing is not about forgetting; it’s about embracing our scars.”
– Dr. Christine Courtois
EMDR is a type of trauma therapy in which your brain does all the work to move experiences through your nervous system and into long-term memory, where they no longer trigger the same intense response.
EMDR helps us process the experience, reducing activation. Imagine all your memories are in boxes on shelves – properly filed away. That traumatic memory is like a footlocker in the middle of the room that you keep tripping over. EMDR helps move it to the shelf.
First, we gather information during our intake session. Then we identify the skills you already have to help you feel grounded before, during, and after sessions.
Next comes the heart of the matter. During EMDR sessions, I will use bilateral stimulation – eye movements, tapping, or sound – to help your brain process the stuck memory.
By identifying and reinforcing your new perspective and thought patterns, you can walk confidently through life without being held back by what happened to you.
Imagine having no more nightmares, the ability to recall memories without the physical or emotional reaction, and the freedom to make choices without trauma driving them.
These benefits are what EMDR offers. In our work together, we will identify those stuck memories and, step by step, move them to where they belong – in your past.
Your next step is to either call or email me, so we can set a solid foundation of skills to assist with the process. Let’s get started.
To feel grounded in who you are and how you move through the world.
You are ready to rise and meet the sun — not by becoming someone new, but by fully stepping into yourself.
Let's take the next step together so you can untangle what's been holding you back and build a life that feels aligned and sustainable.
